Saffron Sun Publishing
Saffron Sun Publishing is dedicated to promoting diverse books that appeal to children and their families. Jasmine Shares Her New Year, written and illustrated by Pamela Podemski , reflects not only the closeness within Persian-American families, but also the fears felt by almost all new immigrants to this country.
Pamela Podemski - Author & Illustrator
Pamela has a passion for children and foreign cultures. She taught elementary school throughout the Los Angeles area where she excelled at making newly-arrived students feel at home.
In addition to being a wife and mother, she, like her character Jasmine, is the granddaughter of immigrants to this country. Pamela is fluent in Farsi, Spanish, French, and Portuguese and loves blending into different cultures. She adores cooking Persian food, and is particularly known for her Ghormeh Sabzi.
New Book: Jasmine Shares Her New Year
Jasmine loves celebrating her New Year, but….
For share day (show and tell), Jasmine and her grandmother are going to explain to the class how they celebrate Nowruz, Persian New Year. Jasmine is fearful and a little nervous. Will the other children think her New Year's traditions are strange? Will they be accepting of her foreign-born grandmother’s accent? Maybe the students are more alike than Jasmine thinks.
A heartwarming story about family, diversity and traditions, this book is to be enjoyed by children, parents and grandparents of all backgrounds and is for anyone who has ever felt different.
Complete with a glossary of Farsi words and meanings for items on the traditional Haft Sin table display.
